PSG Overcomes Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Lift French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now won the season-opening cup on 14 separate occasions.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past Marseille in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the match featuring the French league champions and the French Cup winners after the French winger found the scoring early on.

However, Marseille struck two times in the closing moments to take a shock lead. First, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial leveler in the dying seconds to send the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all converted successfully for PSG to seal a 4-1 shootout victory.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the past 13 seasons.
