In a unexpected crossover event that defies traditional forecasts, Ubisoft has unveiled an digital partnership between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the popular anime series Attack on Titan. The unexpected holiday event operates from November 25 through December 22, providing free extra story content for Shadows players.

Mysterious Mission Disclosed

According to the formal release, "A strange encounter leads heroes Naoe and Yasuke into a fresh mission, where rumors of banned ceremonies and monstrous transformations echo through the darkness." The narrative features a "oddly attired woman named Ada" who charges the duo with traveling into the Gemstone Grotto—a important location from Attack on Titan—to liberate her companion from a secret cult.

The adventure focuses on "strange tests and a monstrous adversary" and is accessible to all players who have acquired the Yasuke character.

Iconic Places and Changes

The teaser features the Underground Chapel from Attack on Titan reimagined as the Crystal Cave. This important location was formerly where the Reiss royal family transmitted the Founding Titan ability through ages. The trailer ends with a powerful moment showing a character, probably the hostage, transforming into a Titan that towers over Naoe and Yasuke.

Exclusive Items and Additional Features

Players who successfully complete the mission will receive an exclusive katana in addition to multiple artifacts concealed throughout the area in secret chests. The update also contains in-store Attack on Titan item packs, including:

• Titan-based attire for Yasuke
• Mikasa outfit for Naoe
• Unique implements
• Survey Corps vehicle

Third Free Story Update

This update also brings the game's latest free story addition, titled "The Mystery." This lighthearted quest partners Naoe and Yasuke as they trade characteristic abilities: Naoe reveals a performative interpretation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke learns non-lethal stealth takedowns. Faithful to its name, "The Mystery" also features a fresh environmental puzzle that may eventually explain some lingering questions from the main storyline.

This signifies not the initial time the Assassin's Creed franchise has crossed over with famous anime series. The series earlier showcased a 2020 collaborative story linking Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga.
